Sri Lanka's Marina Square recommences building activities

Marina Square layout building activities started on Monday, 11 May. General Manager Buddhika Gunarathne said, "Building activities will begin with a smaller workforce and will gradually increase to the maximum operating capacity based on the advice of the authorities concerned."  He further stated that all building activities will begin under strict adherence to all the protocols and procedures recommended by the health and other authorities and that all the necessary approvals were granted for construction work to start on the development of Marina Square.

Representing the Marina Square project's main contractor, Zhou Yong, said, "China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC), being a leading construction company, has the resources, knowledge, experience, and expertise to start operations and advance to full capacity as authorised by the authorities. The supply chain may take a bit longer to stabilise.”

Access Engineering PLC MD Christopher Joshua said, "Current and future customers will be pleased to know that we have taken this time to focus on ways to upgrade the standard area amenities that are provided to you and to schedule construction activities to begin. We are reviewing the options open to us strategically to complete the Marina Square project as expected or with the least delay."

Marketing Director Shivanka De Zoysa said, "The design and development team spent a lot of time focusing on ways of developing and enhancing the features and facilities available to Marina Square condo owners. As a result, we added two squash courts, two additional function halls, a table tennis lounge, a snooker lounge, an indoor play area for children, a bigger clubhouse, and a coffee bar to the already comprehensive list of common element features included."

Marina Square – Uptown Colombo is a fully unified mixed development with three internationally renowned industry giants establishing Sri Lanka's first and largest port front, Access Engineering PLC, China Harbor Engineering Firm, and Mustafa Singapore. This complex of multi-view luxury condominiums provides a view of all the surrounding scenery from the skyline of Colombo city to the vast Indian Ocean to the burgeoning Port City. It will be a spectacle of its own in Colombo North that will consist of 1,068 condos across 36 floors across five buildings. The advantages of vertical living are also unparalleled with its architecture designed to meet every modern homeowner's needs with a selection of facilities that guarantee a trouble-free lifestyle over a five-acre expanse.

OSL Take: The recommencement of construction work of several large mixed development projects in Sri Lanka is indicative of the returning to the normalcy of the country's economy following the COVID 19 global pandemic. The government of Sri Lanka has already discussed the recommencement of the temporarily stalled development agenda. Sri Lanka's economic activities and resumption of development work indicate an opening up of business/investment opportunities to the discerning foreign investor in search of the best options.
