Fonterra accelerates value-added dairy export efforts with Presidential Task Force

In keeping with the vision and imperatives set by the Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication, Fonterra Brands Lanka is speeding up its value-added dairy export efforts. A model batch of the value-added dairy products to be exported has handed over to Chairman Basil Rajapaksa of the Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication Task Group.

This project comes as a timely initiative on Fonterra's part to support the presidential task force's national priorities. Remarking on the occasion, Basil Rajapaksa states, "I appreciate the efforts that private sector organisations have made to take the initiative to support our country's economic prosperity. As a key player in international and local markets, Fonterra encourages me to see how they contribute to the local dairy industry. I am also delighted to witness their efforts to speed up value-added exports of dairy products and hear their plans to reinforce that into the future."

In appreciation of their efforts, Basil Rajapaksa also handed over essential dairy equipment to some of the small-scale local dairy farmers at Fonterra. Basil Rajapaksa observed first-hand the fresh local dairy processing capabilities and world-class technology that Fonterra houses locally to produce its yoghurt, mint, and flavoured milk and drinking yoghurt portfolio – made from milk from its local dairy farmers' network.

Commenting on the occasion, Fonterra's newly appointed Managing Director for the Sri Lankan and Indian Subcontinent business, Vidya Sivaraja, states, "We are encouraged and guided by the government's thought leadership, vision and clear direction to push the nation forward towards prosperity. Our country is rich in resources, ingenuity, and talent. We are committed to championing that potential in line with the priorities of the nation."

Sri Lankan authorities are committed to developing the country's dairy industry. This initiative has resulted in the expansion of business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka's dairy industry. Even the decision to import dairy cows is a business opportunity for foreign businesses engaged in the dairy business.

OSL Take: Sri Lanka's target of becoming self-sufficient in dairy milk has opened up many business/investment opportunities in the country's dairy industry. The state of Sri Lanka has also decided to offer incentives to businesses engaged in the dairy industry. Along with the development of the country's dairy industry, there are also opportunities to set up companies/projects that connect to the sector, which is a growing industry.
