The Ango Eastern
Tanker Management, Hong Kong, operated VLCC (Very Large Crude-oil Carrier) LOA,
332,98 meters with 159,962 gross tonnages, arrived in Hambantota Port for
overboard emergency repairs. Anglo-Eastern is one of the world's leading
companies, with more than 600 ships under full third party ship control and
operating from 25 locations all over the globe.
The afloat
repair team of the Colombo Dockyard arranged to provide the necessary service
to the vessel through the HIPG branch office. They were taking into account the
COVID-19 health recommendations, and in strict compliance with best standards,
this project directs with caution. According to the drawings given, the yard prefabricated
the Sch 140, Dia 250 mm stub pipe portion, and renewed the existing leaking
line upon arrival at berth.
The vessel
trimmed so that the position of the overboard line was above the waterline—the
job completed by using hanging stages at berth, gaining secure access to the
repair site. Ventura Wanasinghe provided the team at the project led by P.L.
Though co-ordination support, Senior Engineer (Afloat Repair), Arvinder Pal
Singh, working remotely from Hong Kong, looked after the owner's interest.
The American
Bureau of Shipping (ABS) category society attended the vessel at HIPG to
inspect and clear the shipyard's repair reach, as per industry requirements. Manship
(Ceylon) Ltd has co-ordinated the local husbanding matters. Sri Lanka's
Dockyard business is an excellent example of a successful collaboration between
a Sri Lankan and foreign company.
The company's
business scope has expanded through time from ship maintenance to shipbuilding,
which is symbolic of the growing business perspective in the country. Sri Lanka's
shipping and naval sectors are currently undergoing a development program,
which is also part of the overall development program launched by the
government of Sri Lanka.

with the island's drive towards achieving hub status in the Indian Ocean
region. Sri Lanka's geological positioning in the Indian Ocean, ease of making
business environment, and the many trade contracts, as well as trade privileges
enjoyed by the country, have made the country a business hub in the South Asian
region. Sri Lanka also figures prominently in China's Belt and Road Initiative,
and the Chinese have shown much interest in Sri Lanka's maritime sector.
Therefore, Sri Lanka's shipping and marine sector is a hotspot for foreignbusiness investments.
